Send and receive email from your own domain

Add your domain, copy the DNS records we write for you, and we tell you when it works.

What it does

Three things you get, in plain words.

  • Writes the DNS records for you

You add a domain. Sukhovei Mail shows the exact records to publish at your DNS host, which is where your domain's settings live. No guessing which record goes where.

  • Proves the mail is really yours

SPF says which servers may send for you. DKIM signs each message. DMARC says what to do with mail that fails. Sukhovei Mail makes the signing key and the records, so Gmail and Outlook trust your mail.

  • Checks and tells you what to fix

Ask Sukhovei Mail to check your records. Each one shows pending, verified or failing. When one fails, it says what is wrong and how to fix it.

Add it, publish the records, check it

You add the domain, publish the records at your DNS host, then ask Sukhovei Mail to check them. Once the domain is verified, you can send from it.

curl -X POST https://api.mailbay.dev/v1/domains \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $MAILBAY_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"name": "acme.com"}'

# The answer lists every DNS record to publish, each with a status:
# MX (to receive), SPF and DKIM and DMARC (to prove it is you),
# and a bounce.acme.com record for bounces.

Your domain already gets mail somewhere else? Do not move it. Put Sukhovei Mail inboxes on a subdomain such as mail.acme.com and keep your current mail as it is. We never delete your existing MX records. Some DNS hosts also offer one-click setup with Domain Connect.

Example: one email, followed from send to delivered

  1. RequestPOST /v1/emails from noreply@acme.comqueued
  2. Mail serverAccepted for ada@example.comsent
  3. InboxAda's mail server took itdelivered

If an address does not exist, the status becomes bounced and the address is blocked from now on.

Limits, honestly

What it does not do, so you can decide before you start.

  • Sending starts only after the domain is verified and our sending provider (Amazon SES) has accepted it. Until then you get a sender_not_verified error that says what is missing.
  • The bounce address is always bounce.yourdomain. You cannot choose another name.
  • BIMI (your logo next to your mail) is not supported.
  • You cannot change TLS settings per domain.
  • Mail is sent from one region only. You cannot pick another.
  • One-click DNS writing works on Vercel and Cloudflare. At other hosts you copy the records yourself, or use Domain Connect where your provider offers it.
  • The free plan includes 3 domains.

Questions

What are SPF, DKIM and DMARC?

They are three DNS records that prove an email really came from you. SPF lists the servers allowed to send for your domain. DKIM adds a signature to each message. DMARC tells receivers what to do when a message fails those checks. Sukhovei Mail generates all three.

Can I send only, without receiving mail?

Yes. If you only send, the MX record is left out, so nothing about your current mail changes. Add the MX record only when you want Sukhovei Mail to receive.

My domain already has email. Will this break it?

No, as long as you use a subdomain. Keep your current mail on acme.com and put Sukhovei Mail inboxes on mail.acme.com. We never delete existing MX records, and we warn you if adding one would move your mail.

Why is there a bounce subdomain?

A bounce is the message that comes back when an email cannot be delivered. We use bounce.yourdomain for it, so the SPF record for sending sits on that subdomain and your main domain's SPF record stays untouched.

How long until my domain is verified?

It depends on how fast your DNS host publishes changes. Sukhovei Mail rechecks a pending domain every 30 seconds for 10 minutes, then hourly for 72 hours, and you can ask for a check at any time.
